MONSUL BEACH: Indy’s Dad and the Nazis.
If you’re a fan of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, you can’t miss this corner of Almería, where some of the most epic scenes were filmed!
On Monsul Beach, the iconic sequence was shot in which Indy’s father, played by Sean Connery, scares the seagulls with an umbrella so a Nazi fighter plane crashes and yes, that “bam!” moment really happened here!
The beach is part of the Cabo de Gata‑Níjar Natural Park, with crystal-clear waters, stunning volcanic formations, and a completely cinematic atmosphere, perfect for feeling like part of the movie.
Can you imagine running here, fleeing from Nazis? Don’t forget your umbrella!!
THE TABERNAS DESERT: Indiana Jones action scenes.
The Tabernas Desert in Almería was one of the key locations for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, recreating the fictional “Republic of Hatay.”
Many of the movie’s most thrilling scenes were filmed here! Especially the high-octane chases with tanks, cars, and motorcycles racing across the ramblas and arid stretches of the Almería desert.
Plus, temporary sets were also built to simulate plazas, buildings, and markets, where tense confrontations between the Nazis and the protagonists were filmed.
The panoramic shots of the desert, with its dry, rocky, and arid terrain, helped create the feeling of an exotic, remote location, perfect for representing the Middle East without leaving Spain!
Tabernas has also become an action set for other productions, such as Game of Thrones, and has even doubled as an Australian landscape in the series The Crown.
Today, visitors can imagine themselves running after Indiana Jones or the Dothraki through its ramblas and rocky hills on tours like these!
