The highlight of the journey is Lough Tay, popularly known as “Guinness Lake.” Its dark waters, framed by a crescent of white sand resembling the frothy head of Ireland’s most famous beer, give it its name. Set on a former Guinness family estate, it offers one of the most photographed views in Ireland.

In Braveheart, the famous ambush on the English camp was filmed in the stunning Coronation Plantation, just a stone’s throw from Sally Gap, right in the heart of Wicklow Mountains National Park… and you can explore it on this tour!

The scenic roads and moorlands surrounding Sally Gap became the perfect backdrop for Wallace and his troops’ horseback rides, crossing landscapes that evoked the Scottish Highlands. The usual enveloping mist in the area added a mystical, untamed atmosphere that was ideal for the film!

We also offer another tour to discover this and other cinematic locations in the magical region of Wicklow!
