Netflix’s smash hit ‘Wednesday’ is back with a fresh twist: a change of scenery. The second season has traded Romania for Ireland, marking the largest production ever filmed in the country. For fans of the Addams family’s darkly charming daughter, this is the perfect excuse to explore the Emerald Isle.
We invite you to travel to the Emerald Isle and explore County Wicklow, famously known as ‘the Garden of Ireland.’ A cinematic adventure through one of the most beautiful and historic countries in old Europe.
Directed once again by Tim Burton and led by Jenna Ortega in the title role, the series takes us back to the gothic halls of Nevermore Academy. Wednesday faces a familiar tangle of family drama, uneasy friendships, and old rivals, all of which drag her into another year of delightfully dark chaos. With her razor-sharp wit and unflappable charm, she soon finds herself ensnared in a chilling new supernatural mystery.
Wicklow: Ireland’s garden becomes Wednesday’s playground
The decision to relocate to Ireland has turned County Wicklow—nicknamed “the Garden of Ireland”—into the show’s new backdrop. Known for its sweeping landscapes, historic estates, and lush greenery, Wicklow offers a cinematic canvas that perfectly complements the series’ gothic aesthetic.
Showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have described the Irish scenery as “truly magical”, highlighting its natural fit within Burton’s darkly whimsical world.
Adding to its appeal, Wicklow is home to two of Ireland’s premier film studios: Ashford Studios and Ardmore Studios. Both sit amid striking natural settings that lend themselves perfectly to the eerie yet enchanting mood of ‘Wednesday‘.
Ashford Studios.
Located in Ballyhenry, Ashford Studios has served as one of the main production hubs for season two. Covering more than 15.000 square meters, it hosted the construction of major interior sets, including Nevermore Academy and the fictional town of Jericho.
In the heart of County Wicklow, the studios combine state-of-the-art facilities with a rural setting, while remaining close to urban locations.
They were also used as a filming base for ‘Vikings‘.
Unfortunately, these impressive studios are not open to the public—but you can still catch a glimpse from the outside. Who knows, you might even stumble across one of the major productions currently being shot there!
Just 25 kilometers south of Dublin city center, Ardmore Studios boasts a cinematic legacy dating back to 1958. Over the decades, it has hosted numerous major productions, including the Oscar-winning epic ‘Braveheart‘, among many others.
Por su parte, los Ardmore Studios, a 25 kilómetros al sur del centro de Dublín, custodia una historia cinematográfica que se remonta a 1958 y han sido escenario de superproducciones como ‘Braveheart’, entre muchas otras.

Magical locations: Irish castles and mansions.
Turn your trip to the Emerald Isle into a movie-like adventure and visit some of the eeriest filming locations featured in Wednesday’s second season!
Powerscourt Estate: Nevernire Cemetery, Hester’s Mansion and Jericho Camp.
One of the must-see locations is Powerscourt Estate, a site the production team described as “truly magical.” This majestic property, with its stately architecture and vast gardens, provided the aristocratic and mysterious atmosphere the series required.
It is also one of the most frequently used filming locations in Ireland for both series and feature films. For over seven months, ‘Wednesday‘ filmed numerous outdoor scenes here.
The new season begins with one of Wednesday’s darkest visions: Enid’s death at the hands of her Addams friend. The tombstone bearing Enid’s name was, of course, a prop—but the cemetery itself was not. In reality, those scenes were shot in Powerscourt Cemetery, the resting place of the Slazenger family.
Although this area is private and closed to visitors, it can still be seen from the outside.
Powercourt Gardens.
Powerscourt Estate exudes pure aristocratic sophistication. This magnificent 13th-century architectural complex has been recognized by National Geographic as the third most beautiful garden in the world. Its grounds cover 19 hectares of landscaped perfection. From Italian terraces to Japanese gardens, every corner has been meticulously designed to create a unique visual experience. Partially restored after a fire in 1974, the mansion stands as a striking testament to Ireland’s architectural grandeur.
Within these gardens lies the mansion of Hester, Morticia’s mother and Wednesday’s grandmother, played by Joanna Lumley. Want to visit them? Here’s the perfect tour for you!
🔗 Private day trip: Powerscourt Gardens and Glendaloug, from Dublin.
One of the great surprises of this enchanting estate is its waterfall, the tallest in Ireland, with a dramatic 121-meter drop. The trail leading to it winds through magnificent beech and oak trees, offering spectacular views of Sugar Loaf Mountain.
The path was even used for filming driving scenes and, in the series, it became the camp where the Nevermore students are sent in this new season.
We suggest these two other tours to explore this and many more cinematic locations across Ireland.
🔗 Private Tour from Dublin: Wicklow, Glendalough, Powerscourt.
Charleville Castle.
Charleville Castle, in County Offaly, was chosen as the new exterior setting for Nevermore Academy.
Its haunted atmosphere fits seamlessly with the Addams Family’s gothic universe. Built in the early 19th century, the fortress has a reputation as one of the most haunted places in Ireland—and indeed in all of Europe—home to paranormal occurrences and ghostly tales. The perfect stage for the sarcastic and sharp-tongued Wednesday.
Upon entering, a grand central staircase—the fictional entrance to Nevermore—leads to the first room. The salon, transformed into the music room for the series, still bears traces of past productions: curtains and a false door from ‘Reign‘, a lamp from ‘Wednesday‘ that still adorns a cabinet, and a once-bare wall that hosted the imposing organ we see on screen.
The adjoining room became an abandoned classroom, still painted in the dark tones used for the show.
In a smaller chamber, study scenes were filmed, and, in a detail straight out of gothic fiction, a hidden door behind a bookshelf leads to the gardens—repurposed in the series as a secret tunnel.
Today, Charleville Castle regularly hosts unique events, from music festivals and art exhibitions to themed tours.
During the season (summer and autumn), guided tours are available—check the schedule before you go.
Glendalough: the Valley of the Two Lakes.
This journey through Wednesday’s filming locations is also the perfect opportunity to discover County Wicklow, located just 30 minutes south of Dublin. Don’t miss the chance to visit Glendalough, one of Ireland’s most iconic landscapes.
Its name in Gaelic means “Valley of the Lakes”, and it is home to one of the best-preserved medieval monastic sites in Ireland. Founded in the 6th century by St. Kevin—who sought solitude for prayer and contemplation—it became a major center of pilgrimage and learning for more than six centuries.
The trail leading to the Upper Lake offers an almost mystical experience. Along the way you’ll find Reefert Church, Temple-na-Skellig, and the legendary “bed” of St. Kevin, a natural cave carved into the rock where the saint is said to have retreated in search of meditation.
To make the most of your visit to County Wicklow, you can book an excursion that not only includes Glendalough, but also the idyllic Wicklow Mountains National Park and sweeping views from Wicklow Gap. The trip concludes in Kilkenny, Ireland’s medieval capital, where sharp-eyed Wednesday herself would have felt perfectly at home.

A grim visit to Wicklow Gaol.
No tour of Wednesday’s season two filming locations would be complete without a stop at Wicklow Gaol. While no scenes from the series were shot here, its gothic, eerie atmosphere fits perfectly with the macabre spaces so beloved by our heroine.
During this interactive experience, visitors can watch holographic projections of prison guards, wander through the original cells, and descend into the dungeon.

Sally Gap: a scenic route with cinematic views.
This cinematic adventure comes to a close along Sally Gap Road, a winding route that cuts through desolate moors and rolling hills, offering unforgettable panoramic views. Film lovers are in for an extra treat: countless movies have been shot here, including ‘Braveheart‘ and ‘P.S. I Love You‘.
The highlight of the journey is Lough Tay, popularly known as “Guinness Lake.” Its dark waters, framed by a crescent of white sand resembling the frothy head of Ireland’s most famous beer, give it its name. Set on a former Guinness family estate, it offers one of the most photographed views in Ireland.
Cloragh Forest.
When Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones) agrees to oversee the fundraising gala, she moves into Rotwood Cottage. But don’t go looking for it—it isn’t a real building. The production team constructed a miniature version of the house in the depths of Cloragh Forest.
Dublin: Trinity College and Deansgrange Cemetery.
Before heading home, what better way to end the trip than by exploring one of Europe’s most vibrant capitals? In Dublin, fans can discover even more ‘Wednesday‘ filming locations, including the iconic Trinity College and the atmospheric Deansgrange Cemetery.

Deansgrange Cemetery.
Of course, season two of the series wouldn’t be complete without scenes filmed in one of Dublin’s most historic cemeteries. After all, our favorite character is a true admirer of the gloomy and macabre—and graveyards rank among her favorite places.
Located in the suburban area of Deansgrange in Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, the cemetery dates back to 1865 and holds more than 150,000 graves, including those of many notable Irish figures. Among them are Seán Lemass, a member of the Irish Volunteers; Senator William Quirke (1896–1955), a Fianna Fáil politician, businessman, and IRA leader in Tipperary during the Irish War of Independence and the Irish Civil War; actor Dermot Morgan; and the recently deceased singer Sinéad O’Connor
The production team found in this historic cemetery the perfect setting to recreate the gothic atmosphere of the series. Its tree-lined avenues and historic headstones were used to enhance some of the show’s darkest and most haunting sequences. Dare to experience this macabre cinematic adventure for yourself?
Entry is free, and the cemetery is usually open to the public between 10:00 and 16:30.
Weekday visits are recommended to avoid interruptions from funeral services and to enjoy a more tranquil atmosphere.
For an even darker adventure, you can’t miss the Gravedigger Ghost Bus Tour. Starting at Trinity College, guides in full costume transport visitors back 600 years to medieval Dublin—a city haunted by plague, chilling legends, and grim historical events.
Don’t worry, though—the tour ends on a lighter note, with a stop at a pub!!
Trinity College; home to ghosts and gloomy legends.
We wrap up our tour of ‘Wednesday‘ filming locations at one of Dublin’s most popular landmarks: Trinity College. In this case, the universities historic halls doubled as Newark Airport’s bustling terminal in New Jersey, setting the stage for the series’ American arrival scenes.
Both the Business School building and the Graduate Memorial Building were used in production, adding yet another layer of cinematic history to this iconic university.
A most fitting place to recreate the adventures of the sardonic, expressionless, and stoic Wednesday Addams and her family. According to old legends, the campus is haunted and several ghosts are said to wander freely—including that of Fellow Edward Ford, the last resident of the oldest building on campus, the Rubrics, who was murdered there.
Founded in 1592, Trinity College is Ireland’s oldest and most prestigious university. Located in the heart of Dublin, its library is one of the city’s most popular attractions and houses more than six million volumes, including the world-famous Book of Kells. It is also a global leader in research and consistently ranks among the world’s top universities.
You can stroll around the campus grounds for free, but there are also official tours that come highly recommended, like these two we suggest below:

Clonliffe College.
To recreate Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital, where Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan) is confined after the events of season one, the production team used Clonliffe College in Dublin. Its gothic-style architecture made it the perfect stand-in for the Eerie asylum.
If you can’t resist following the darkly comic adventures of cynical ‘Wednesday‘—and you’re passionate about travel—this is without doubt the trip of your dreams.
County Wicklow—with its ancient castles, rolling green landscapes, and state-of-the-art film facilities—has proven to be the perfect setting to bring to life the mysteries and gothic magic that define the Addams Family universe. The move to Ireland has not only enriched the series visually but also opened new opportunities for future collaborations between international productions and Ireland’s growing film industry.
