STEP INTO WEDNESDAY’S DARK WORLD JUST OUTSIDE DUBLIN!

POWERSCOURT CEMETERY: Nevermore Cemetery.

One of the must-see locations is Powerscourt Estate, a site the production team described as “truly magical.” This majestic property, with its stately architecture and vast gardens, provided the aristocratic and mysterious atmosphere the series required.

It is also one of the most frequently used filming locations in Ireland for both series and feature films. For over seven months, ‘Wednesday‘ filmed numerous outdoor scenes here.

The new season begins with one of Wednesday’s darkest visions: Enid’s death at the hands of her Addams friend. The tombstone bearing Enid’s name was, of course, a prop—but the cemetery itself was not. In reality, those scenes were shot in Powerscourt Cemetery, the resting place of the Slazenger family.

Although this area is private and closed to visitors, it can still be seen from the outside.

POWERSCOURT GARDENS: Hester’s Mansion and Jericho Camp.

Powerscourt Estate exudes pure aristocratic sophistication. This magnificent 13th-century architectural complex has been recognized by National Geographic as the third most beautiful garden in the world. Its grounds cover 19 hectares of landscaped perfection. From Italian terraces to Japanese gardens, every corner has been meticulously designed to create a unique visual experience. Partially restored after a fire in 1974, the mansion stands as a striking testament to Ireland’s architectural grandeur.

Within these gardens lies the mansion of Hester, Morticia’s mother and Wednesday’s grandmother, played by Joanna Lumley. Want to visit them? Here’s the perfect tour for you!

One of the great surprises of this enchanting estate is its waterfall, the tallest in Ireland, with a dramatic 121-meter drop. The trail leading to it winds through magnificent beech and oak trees, offering spectacular views of Sugar Loaf Mountain.

The path was even used for filming driving scenes and, in the series, it became the camp where the Nevermore students are sent in this new season.

We suggest these two other tours to explore this and many more cinematic locations across Ireland.

CHARLEVILLE CASTLE: Nevermore exterior setting.

Charleville Castle, in County Offaly, was chosen as the new exterior setting for Nevermore Academy.

Its haunted atmosphere fits seamlessly with the Addams Family’s gothic universe. Built in the early 19th century, the fortress has a reputation as one of the most haunted places in Ireland—and indeed in all of Europe—home to paranormal occurrences and ghostly tales. The perfect stage for the sarcastic and sharp-tongued Wednesday.

Upon entering, a grand central staircase—the fictional entrance to Nevermore—leads to the first room. The salon, transformed into the music room for the series, still bears traces of past productions: curtains and a false door from ‘Reign‘, a lamp from ‘Wednesday‘ that still adorns a cabinet, and a once-bare wall that hosted the imposing organ we see on screen.

The adjoining room became an abandoned classroom, still painted in the dark tones used for the show.

In a smaller chamber, study scenes were filmed, and, in a detail straight out of gothic fiction, a hidden door behind a bookshelf leads to the gardens—repurposed in the series as a secret tunnel.

Today, Charleville Castle regularly hosts unique events, from music festivals and art exhibitions to themed tours.

During the season (summer and autumn), guided tours are available—check the schedule before you go.

ASHFORD STUDIOS: Nevermore interior sets and Jericho town.

Located in Ballyhenry, Ashford Studios has served as one of the main production hubs for season two. Covering more than 15.000 square meters, it hosted the construction of major interior sets, including Nevermore Academy and the fictional town of Jericho.

In the heart of County Wicklow, the studios combine state-of-the-art facilities with a rural setting, while remaining close to urban locations.

They were also used as a filming base for Vikings‘.

Unfortunately, these impressive studios are not open to the public—but you can still catch a glimpse from the outside. Who knows, you might even stumble across one of the major productions currently being shot there!

Just 25 kilometers south of Dublin city center, Ardmore Studios boasts a cinematic legacy dating back to 1958. Over the decades, it has hosted numerous major productions, including the Oscar-winning epic ‘Braveheart‘, among many others.

Por su parte, los Ardmore Studios, a 25 kilómetros al sur del centro de Dublín, custodia una historia cinematográfica que se remonta a 1958 y han sido escenario de superproducciones como ‘Braveheart’, entre muchas otras.

TRINITY COLLEGE: Business School and Graduate Memorial Building

We wrap up our tour of ‘Wednesday‘ filming locations at one of Dublin’s most popular landmarks: Trinity College. In this case, the universities historic halls doubled as Newark Airport’s bustling terminal in New Jersey, setting the stage for the series’ American arrival scenes.

Both the Business School building and the Graduate Memorial Building were used in production, adding yet another layer of cinematic history to this iconic university.

A most fitting place to recreate the adventures of the sardonic, expressionless, and stoic Wednesday Addams and her family. According to old legends, the campus is haunted and several ghosts are said to wander freely—including that of Fellow Edward Ford, the last resident of the oldest building on campus, the Rubrics, who was murdered there.

Founded in 1592, Trinity College is Ireland’s oldest and most prestigious university. Located in the heart of Dublin, its library is one of the city’s most popular attractions and houses more than six million volumes, including the world-famous Book of Kells. It is also a global leader in research and consistently ranks among the world’s top universities.

You can stroll around the campus grounds for free, but there are also official tours that come highly recommended, like these two we suggest below:

CLONLIFFE COLLEGE: Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital.

To recreate Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital, where Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan) is confined after the events of season one, the production team used Clonliffe College in Dublin. Its gothic-style architecture made it the perfect stand-in for the Eerie asylum.

If you can’t resist following the darkly comic adventures of cynical ‘Wednesday‘—and you’re passionate about travel—this is without doubt the trip of your dreams.
