NORTHERN QUARTER: Princess Diana's trip to NY.
The coolest neighbourhood in Manchester, Northern Quarter, was transformed for a few days into New York city for the TV show.
The Crown profited from the walls covered in graffiti, its bohemian bars and vintage stores to recreate the streets of New York in Princess Diana’s solo trip to the Big Apple in 1989.

Not much work was needed. A few metro signs, yellow cabs and American flags here and there and the John Rylands Library, Manchester University and the historic Free Trade Hall became New York city buildings. Just like that!
