STEP INTO 'OUTER BANKS' ALONG THE SOUTH CAROLINA COAST!

In Netflix’s hit adventure thriller Outer Banks, the Pogues are constantly on the run dodging danger and chasing treasure. With so much non-stop action, it’s no surprise the show features plenty of stunning locations!

Although Outer Banks is set on the real Outer Banks, a chain of barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina, the series was actually filmed in and around Charleston, South Carolina.

KILDARE ISLAND: The divided paradise of the Pogues and the Kooks.

Although Kildare Island is a fictional place, in the show it represents a barrier island off the coast of North Carolina where all the drama between the Pogues and the Kooks unfolds. The seaside scenes and boat adventures were mainly filmed around Shem Creek, in Mount Pleasant, just outside Charleston! Its docks and calm waterways perfectly capture the carefree, summer spirit of the show’s main characters!

You’ll love strolling along Shem Creek at sunset. The waterfront bars and patios are perfect for a drink with a view, you’ll feel just like one of the Pogues!

HUNTING ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE: The Redfield lighthouse.

When John B and Kiara go searching for clues about the Royal Merchant treasure, they find themselves at the mysterious Redfield lighthouse. In reality, this is the Hunting Island Lighthouse, located in Hunting Island State Park, South Carolina. It’s the state’s only publicly accessible lighthouse and one of the show’s most recognizable filming spots!!

OLD BETHEL AME CHURCH: John B’s bell tower.

The romantic, abandoned bell tower where John B and Sarah hide has a story of its own. Those scenes were filmed at the Old Bethel AME Church, a Civil War–era chapel located in McClellanville, South Carolina. Its weathered architecture and forest surroundings make it as hauntingly beautiful in real life as it looks in the show.

While the interior isn’t open to the public, you can still wander around the area and take in the eerie, nostalgic atmosphere that defines this spot!!

BOWENS ISLAND RESTAURANT: JJ and John B’s Rockfish Bar.

The Rockfish Bar, where JJ and John B meet up with their friend Boogie, is actually the Bowens Island Restaurant, a beloved seafood joint in Charleston. With its laid-back vibe and stunning views, it’s one of the most authentic locations featured in the series.

You can order some local oysters or shrimp and watch the sunset over the Folly River. It doesn’t get more Pogue Life than this!!

CIRCULAR CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH: The Charleston cemetery.

In their search for answers, John B, Sarah, Pope, and Cleo end up at a church with a stained-glass window shaped like a north star. This scene was filmed at the Circular Congregational Church, one of Charleston’s oldest churches, featuring a historic cemetery that also appears in the series.
